Abbas Karimi is a lecturer and faculty member of the Glass Department, Faculty of Handicrafts, at Tabriz Islamic Art University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the same university and paved his specialized path in teaching the kiln-casting technique from the very beginning of his academic career, through research on the potentials of this method in electric kilns for glass art production. He is considered one of the founders of academic teaching of the glass casting (kiln-casting) technique in Iran. After being admitted to the University of Tehran – the capital of glass art in Iran – he simultaneously attended traditional glassblowing factories, where he learned glassblowing skills and became familiar with factory structures, traditional furnace design principles, and raw material batch composition. His master's thesis, focusing on the Studio Glass movement and its impact on contemporary glass art, transformed his perspective on glass as a medium and its position in today's art. He then established the first glassblowing studio at Tabriz Islamic Art University. Responding to existing limitations in Iran, he personally designed and manufactured studio glass equipment and furnaces for students and leading factories, gaining valuable technical experience in the process. Since joining the faculty, while supervising student projects in glassblowing and kiln-casting, he has also pursued technical studies on historical Iranian glass, resulting in several domestic scientific articles. He currently teaches five specialized courses: Advanced Design, Furnace Design and Construction, Glassblowing Workshop, Kiln-Casting Workshop, and Glass Materials and Tools Workshop. Undoubtedly, his most significant achievement in recent years is the development of the approved curriculum by the Iranian Ministry of Science for the Master's program in Glass Art – the outcome of two years of meticulous study on the technical and historical dimensions of this field, which is now being taught at Tabriz Islamic Art University.
